LINEKER CRITICISES BECKHAM ON QATAR DEAL

Gary Lineker has criticisedfellow England legend David Beckham following his decision to become an ambassador for Qatar. According to his quotes as published in the Daily Mail, Ex-England international striker Lineker said he won’t have taken the Qatarambassadorial deal given to David Beckham before adding that its his (David Beckham) business. The BBC pundit further said that he won’t be doing anything for Qatar at the World Cup next year mainly due to their human rights record.

Ex-Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona striker Lineker has been very vocal about Qatar and he has openly opposed the decision to give them the hosting rights for next year’s FIFA World Cup tournament.

In an interview with The Sun, Gary Lineker revealed that it’s pubic knowledge that the bid that led to the emergence of Qatar as the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts was a corrupt one and that they have to live with the situation. He went on to say that he would definitely be at the tournament to report on it.

The problem that Lineker has with Qatar is human rights-related as pointed out earlier. The retired England player said that Qatar has got a lot of fundamental human rights wrong.

Compatriot Lineker is one of several people who have questioned the decision from David Beckham to take up the ambassadorial role for Qatar. The former Manchester United skipper is a cultural ambassador for the Asian nation. The job description for David Beckham as regards his ambassador role with the Middle Eastern country is mainly down to the promotion of the World Cup tournament billed for next year.

David Beckham is a Manchester United legend who also played for other big European teams such as Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint Germain (PSG). He called time on his playing career in the coloursof  LA Galaxy in the MLS (Major League Soccer).
